25 Years Ago May 1990

After trying for seven days, workers finally were able to lift a pump and motor which had fallen from the city’s No. 1 well on May 18.  The unit is now in Ames being examined to determine if it sustained any damage in the falling some 250-feet.

Advance tickets are now available for the Clear Lake Tour of Homes.  The tour features a collection of older Clear Lake houses which have been remodeled and redecorated to fit today’s living styles.  The four homes are owned by Ted and Gaye Kehm, 2101 South Lakeview Drive; Stan and Diane Harrison, 21 Bayside; Tom and Jan Lovell, 545 North Shore Drive; and the Larch Pine Inn Bed and Breakfast, home of Gary and Elaine Ficken, 401 North Third St.

Nancy Lynn Wegner and Matthew Scot Brinkman were married on Saturday, Nov. 11, 1989, in Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.

Shannon McClelland, of Clear Lake, is engaged to be married to Dustin Huey, of Clear Lake.  A Sept. 15, 1990 wedding is planned at Zion Lutheran Church.

Two local men have joined the staff at Lake Chevrolet, 2150 4th Ave. S., Clear Lake.  Craig Richey and Tom Gretillat have accepted new positions.  Richey will be the new office manager and Gretillat will be a member of the sales staff.

Marilyn Hasapopoulos and Shirley Carlson have received awards from Governor Terry Branstad in his annual Volunteer Recognition Awards program.

The Clear Lake girls softball team opened its 1990 season by beating North Iowa, 6-5.  Wendy Bell was the winning pitcher.  Scoring runs for Clear Lake were Ball, Lisa Broers, Kendra Berge, Heather Datema, Stacy Peterson and Jen Bartell.

Kevin Lewerke, of Clear Lake, was named Mr. Natural Teen Iowa in a competition held in Des Moines.  The contest is unique because it requires all bodybuilding participants to be drug free.  Lewerke competed in the tall division of the competition and then won the overall title.  He has been lifting weights at the Clear Lake Fitness Club.

The Whitesidewalls will perform at The Surf Ballroom on Saturday, June 9.
