Cardinal baseball team rolls to victories

It was good week for the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura baseball team, as they rolled to three more wins.

GHV 4, Osage 3 (8)

The lead was up for grabs many time when GHV traveled to Osage on Tuesday, June 7.  The two teams passed the lead back and forth before the Cardinals finished off the game with a 4-3 victory in eight innings.

The final score that sealed the deal was an RBI single by Colton Schroeder that scored Ryan Meyers.

Schroeder pitched seven innings, stricking out three batters and walking two.  He gave up nine hits and allowed three runs.  Dane Whipple and Schroeder also saw some time on the mound.  Schroeder recorded the win, striking out one, walking none and giving up no hits.

Nick Joynt led the team at the plate.  He was 3/4 and scored two of the Cardinal’s four runs.  He singled in the first and third innings and doubled in the fifth.

Cade Baker had two hits, one being a double.  He also scored two runs.  Harley Forry and Anthony Sherwood also had two hits apiece.  They each recorded an RBI.

GHV 15, North Iowa 0 (4)

GHV 11, North Iowa 8

The Cardinals had no trouble capturing two wins at home against North Iowa on Monday, June 13.

GHV jumped to an early lead with 11 runs on North Iowa in the first inning.  That led the way to a 15-0 victory in four innings.

Cade Bamrick got the win.  He pitched four shutout innings.  He struck-out two, walked none and gave up five hits.

Harley Forry led the team, going 2/2 at the plate.  He singled in the second inning and doubled in the fourth.  Colton Schroeder also had a good night with two hits, both were doubles.  He also scored three runs and had one RBI.

It took the Cardinals a little longer to get the job done in the next game, but GHV still pulled off an 11-8 victory in seven innings.

North Iowa struggled with Ryley Kozisek on the mound.  Kozisek gave up just two hits, allowed no earned runs, walked four and struck out seven during his four innings of work.  Anthony Sherwood pitched three innings.  He gave up two hits, struck-out five and walked four.

Harley Forry knocked a homer in the second inning.  The fourth inning was also exciting, when Nick Joynt ignited the offense with a triple, bringing home Bamrick, Payton James and Forry.  That was followed by a single by Cade Baker that brought Joynt home.
