The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls soccer team faced some tough competition last week.

A physical and fast Iowa Falls-Alden team shut out the Cardinals on Tuesday, May 24.  The Cadets blanked GHV, 4-0.

“Anytime you play a team with that kind of build up it’s going to be tough,” said Coach Josh Banse.  “I thought despite the score, the girls are still improving and working toward our goal and that is winning in Regionals.”

Goalie Morgan Westendorf had 10 saves.

Payton Bamrick led GHV with three shots and two shots on goal.

Gilbert 9, GHV 0

GHV faced one of the toughest teams in the state when they took on Gilbert on Thursday, May 26.  Gilbert lived up to its reputation by dominating the Cardinals, 9-0.

“We knew coming into this game we would have to contain Olivia Sterns, who leads the state in goals.  We did that the first half, but they were just too strong for us to contain in the second half,” said Coach Josh Banse.

Payton Echelberger and Payton Bamrick each had one shot on goal.

Morgan Westendorf had eight saves in the goalie position.

“We will see if what we have worked on pays off as we start Regional competition,” said Graham.
