Clear Lake Arts Center will dedicate Sukup Lakeside Courtyard Saturday
The Clear Lake Arts Center (CLAC) is “Celebrating the Arts!” on Saturday, July 20, from 6 – 9 pm. This year’s event will center around the much anticipated Sukup Lakeside Courtyard dedication. The CLAC has been working on the completion of the project for the past 10 months. Tickets are $25 each and available from CLAC board members or in person at the guest service desk at the Arts Center.
“The wait is over for Sukup Lakeside Courtyard and Sculpture Garden. The Arts Center is thrilled to add to our community’s long list of special attractions and look forward to welcoming residents and visitors to this special celebration,” said Kathy Ingram, CLAC Board President.
A request for proposals was posted on March 1. A small volunteer selection committee reviewed the proposals and selected this year’s finalists. Each artist received a stipend for the season. The new sculpture garden will feature work by these five sculptors: Tim Adams of Webster City, Iowa; Whitney Bjustom of Emmetsburg, Iowa; Hilde DeBruyne of Cumming, Iowa; Jerry Nelson of Clear Lake; Craig Snyder of Plymouth, Minn.
A People’s Choice Award will be given on Sept. 15, 2019. Voting will begin at the Celebrate the Arts! event and will close on Sept.14. Stop by the Arts Center’s guest service desk for a ballot.
Highlights for the July 20 event include music by The Mockingbirds, hors d’oeuvres and cash bar, short program at 7:15, dedication of the Sukup Lakeside Courtyard at 7:30 p.m., “Paint Out Loud” paintings by Kathy Cessna on view, and the start of voting for the People’s Choice Award.
It is a big month for the CLAC, as its 41st Art Sail will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in City Park July
