Frayne places fourth in Class 2A
by Michelle Watson
Garner-Hayfield-Ventura’s Carlee Frayne competed in the Class 2A State Golf Tournament held at Ames Country Club on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 21 and 22.
On Tuesday, Frayne started slow, going five-over-par on the first three holes on the way to a seven-over round of 42. She played much better on the back nine, carding six pars, a birdie, a bogey and a double bogey for a two-over-par round of 39. After the first day she was tied for fourth place with a score of 81.
After starting with a bogey on her first hole on Wednesday, Frayne strung together four pars and a birdie. She finished the round with a bogey and two pars to turn the corner with a one-over round of 36. On the back nine, she carded three birdies and three pars to go with three bogeys to finish even with a 37. Her 18-hole score of 73 was the best effort of all individuals on Wednesday. Her two day total of 81 and 73 for a 154 put her in fourth place individually for the tournament.
“Over the past two tournaments, Regional Final and State, Carlee has developed some amazing resiliency. On both occasions she started a little shaky, but was able to pull her game together and play some very solid golf,” said Coach Todd Greiman. “This effort should prove to be a great springboard into next season and I know she’ll be working to finish her high school career with a fourth trip to the State Tournament.”
