TIC Meet

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys golf team placed fourth in the Top of Iowa Conference Meet held in Armstrong on Monday, May 6.

“I was very happy with the fourth place finish,” said Coach Ken Krause.  “Fourth out of the nine-team field was great after losing members from last year’s team.”

Lake Mills won the TIC meet with a score of 346.  Forest City was second with 351.  GHV ended with a 379.

Caden Vitek, a senior, and Sam Wood, a freshman, made the All-Conference team.  Vitek placed eighth with a (46-45)91.  Wood was only one stroke behind Vitek with a (48-44)92, he placed 10th.

Tyler Clouse, of Forest City, was the meet medalist with a 72.  Bennett Berger, of Lake Mills, was runner-up with a 79.

Sectional Meet

GHV wrapped up the season at the 2A Sectional meet held on Friday, May 10, at the New Hampton Country Club.

The Cardinals finished in seventh place with a 388.  New Hampton won the meet with a 326, followed by North Fayette Valley with a 351.

GHV was led by Sam Wood (44-48)92.

“Sam has improved a great deal and will have a bright future for the Cards,” said Coach Krause.

The other players had a tough front nine, but shot 12-strokes better on the second nine.  Vitek shot (50-45)95, followed by Eric Heitland, (53-47)100 and Jordan Upmeyer, (53-48)101.  Ryan Kumsher and Noah Boeckman finished with rounds of (56-52)108 and (66-53)119 respectively.

“The season was one of great improvements.  We finished with a winning record.  As a coach, I am most proud of the hard work, and positive attitude.  These young men represent their school and communities in a very positive light.  Our two seniors, Caden Vitek and Noah Boeckman, will be missed,” said Krause.
