The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls track team will be represented at the State track meet in two events. The team competed at the District meet on Friday, May 10, on their home track.
“I am super proud of the girls,” said Coach Dyan Childress. “We went into the State qualifying meet hoping to qualify in the shuttle hurdle relay and Maddie Hinz in the 100 meter hurdles and we did just that.
Three of the top five 2A hurdlers came from this district, so competition was stiff.
The tough competitors led Hinz to record a personal best time of 15.69 in the 100 meter hurdles. She placed third in the event. The shuttle hurdle team, consisting of Mara Anderson, Lorelei Cash, Kylie Anderson and Hinz, broke their own school record with a time of 1:08.61, good for second place.
As a team, the Cardinals placed 11th in the 12-team field, with 20 points. Crestwood won the meet with 121.5 points, Emmetsburg was second with 100 points.
“The girls thrive on competition. They are excited about state and they have their goals set to make it to the finals and place as high as they can,” said Childress.
