Jacobs wins long jump competition

Makella Jacobs led the Clear Lake girls track team at the Don Hoppel Relays held Monday in Garner.  Jacobs had a leap of 13’10.75” to win the long jump competition.

Alana Moody also provided points in the field events for the Lions.  She tossed the shot 28’5” to place third.

Other top finishes included the shuttle hurdle teams’ fourth place performance.  Grace Myer, Peyton McGrath, Anna Feuerbach and Mariposa Coleman posted a time of 1:21.73. McGrath also finished fourth in the 400 hurdles in 1:23.80.

“With some injuries that the Lions are fighting, the girls are day in and day out looking for personal records to set for themselves,” said Coach Shawn Puttmann.  “We are hopeful that we will get some of the injured athletes to return for conference meet.”

As a team, the Lions were seventh at Monday’s meet with 34 points.  Osage won took the title with 188 points.

NCC Meet

Humboldt High School was the site of the North Central Conference track meet Thursday, May 6.  The young Clear Lake team was unable to earn many points against some conference powerhouses this year.  

Humboldt won the meet with 160 points.  Iowa Falls-Alden edged Algona for second place, 120 to 116.  Clarion-Goldfield-Dows was close behind with 114 points.  The remainder of the field included: St. Edmond (84), Webster City (78), Hampton-Dumont-CAL (28), Clear Lake (17).

Those earning points for the Lions included Grace Myer, who was seventh in the long jump with a leap of 13’10.25”.  She was also eighth in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 19.2.

Alana Moody also had a placement in individual competition.  She was eighth in the shot put with a toss of 29’10”.

Anna Feuerbach recorded a time of 2:44.2 in the 800 meter run to also place eighth.

The Lions’ highest placing relay was the shuttle hurdle team of Myer, Peyton McGrath, Feuerbach and Mariposa Coleman.  The team ran a 1:20.3 to finish fourth.  

The Distance Medley relay with Jordan Maryland, Makella Jacobs, Ava Richtsmeier and Feuerbach was sixth in 5:20.6.

The Sprint Medley team of Maycee Mariarty, Jacobs, Richtsmeier and Feuerbach was seventh in 2:17.8.

The Lions will run in their District meet in Nevada Thursday, May 13.

Junior Varsity

In junior varsity competition at the district meet Peyton McGrath won the high jump by clearing 4’2”.  Alexis Hauge was second in the 400 meter dash in a time of 1:17.2.  Ella Warnke earned fourth place in the 100 meter dash in a  time of 15.6, while Kirstyn Branstad was eighth in 16.7.

The JV 4x400 relay with Kylee Leewright, McGrath, Warnke and Jadyn Heesch placed fourth in 5:24.4.
