Lions put in extra work on the links
The Clear Lake girls golf team is putting in plenty of time on the links in preparation for Regional play. The Lions posted wins in duals and triangular meets before competing in the North Central Conference Meet Tuesday, May 10.
NCC Meet
Humboldt earned the North Central Conference Tournament title, topping Clear Lake by 19 strokes. The Wildcats finished with a score of 179 at Clarion. The Lions came in with 193, followed by Clarion-Goldfield with 204, Algona 215, Hampton-Dumont 229, Webster City 243 and St. Ed’s 265. Iowa Falls-Alden did not have a team score.
“The weather conditions were not ideal and we may not have played our best golf, but we will take a second place finish any day,” said Coach Adam Brinkman.
Clear Lake’s best round was recorded by Emily Snelling, who carded a 46. Ashley DeLong finished fourth with a 46, Jordyn Barragy tied for eighth with a 49 and Erin Carew had a score of 52.
“Emily was a little disappointed in her outcome today, but we are looking at in a positive manner. Everyone will have a day or two where absolutely nothing goes right, and so we are just going to move on from it and focus on Regionals,” said Coach Brinkman.

“This (173) was our lowest round of the season by 12 strokes,” said Coach Adam Brinkman. “It was good to see all six girls playing well in the same meet. Five out of the six girls shot their season low, so this is a great motivation booster heading into the postseason.”
Forest City Tournament
On Friday, May 13, the Lions traveled to Forest City for a tournament. Mason City topped the team standings with a 185. Clear Lake was runner-up with 199. Newman Catholic fired 202, Charles City 203, Algona 206, Clarion-Goldfield 207, and Forest City 235.

“We may not have shot out best scores overall today, but this tournament was a good practice round heading into regionals,” said Brinkman.
