William H. Varty
William “Bill” H. Varty, 63, of Clear Lake, passed away unexpectedly after a short illness on Saturday, April 2, 2016 in Hays, Kan.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th Street, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Kenneth Gehling officiating. Family burial will be held at Marion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Gunder, Iowa.
A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family and Humane Society of North Iowa.
Bill was born Jan. 14, 1953, the son of Hugh and Dolores “Mickie” (McNally) Varty. He was baptized at Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder. His schooling started in Minneapolis, Minn., and then the family moved to Clear Lake in September 1961. He was active in Boy Scouts and attended Philmont Boy Scout Camp in New Mexico. Bill was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake and was a 1971 graduate of Clear Lake High School.
Bill sold insurance for America Republic, drove cross country for Winnebago and was working at AmeriFleet at the time of his death.
Bill is survived by his mother, Dolores “Mickie” Varty, of Clear Lake; sister, Dion Varty; niece, Miranda (Justin) Varty Servantez; two great-nephews, Jakob and Jarrett Servantez, all of Mason City; aunts, uncles, Wanda McNally, Betty Searls, Patricia Smith, Sandy Cutler, John Cutler and Ron McNally; and numerous cousins.
Bill is preceded in death by his father, Hugh Varty, who passed Feb. 16, 2005; maternal and paternal grandparents, many aunts, uncles and three cousins.
Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
