To meet customer needs with new products and services, the retail offices of Woodford Lumber and Home will be moved to a new location this fall.

“We need more room to provide all of the products and services requested by customers,” said Manager Darle Hoshaw of its current downtown location.   The new location at 1800 7th Ave. N.  has more retail and warehouse space and easier access because of its proximity to the highway. The building formerly housed Superior Lumber, which closed its doors in May.  Superior Lumber owners Heidi and Paul Mehmen, of Charles City, purchased the former Farmers Coop Lumber buildings and 3.16 acre site in 2011 from Farmers Coop Inc. for $350,000.  The owners say the Clear Lake closing has no effect on Superior Lumber properties in Charles City and New Hampton.

Woodford Lumber Company was started in 1869 at its present location at 210 N. 4th St. A 150th anniversary open house will be celebrated at the current location in August.

“We are so grateful to have incredible expertise on our team,” said Woodford Lumber President Jan Lovell. “Two of our staff were lumberyard managers at other locations, one was an assistant manager, one was a contractor.  They have a wide-ranging combination of knowing the business and also staying up with new trends.  Doing the best job for the customer is at the heart of it all.  My great-grandfather C.R.

Woodford was known for providing “exemplary” customer service and that tradition continues today.”

“My favorite part is helping the customer, whether that is a contractor or a homeowner,” Hoshaw said. “There is something very satisfying about getting things from ‘here to there’ for them and making them happy.”

Assistant Manager Michele Collins is even working with the next generation of some longtime customers.

“I’ve done multiple projects with some of my customers and am now working with their children,” Collins said, noting that she has been doing construction projects in the Clear Lake and surrounding area for about 35 years.   “They have become more like friends and family.  I have such great memories of working together with people and their projects.”

The new facility will provide Woodford Lumber and Home with additional room for the Signature Benjamin Moore paint store.  It truly is a “paint like no other,” Hoshaw said, noting that there are customers who are now so loyal to the brand that they will drive 50-60 miles to get their paint at the Benjamin Moore Signature Store at Woodford Lumber and Home.

Trained color consultants provide personalized service to help each customer find the right paint and color for their project.   Computerized color matching software and paint tinting ensures that customers can also match existing paint colors.  “We partnered with Benjamin Moore paint because of its outstanding reputation for superior quality and performance,” Hoshaw said. “This is the paint that professional painters, architects and interior designers recommend because of the vibrant colors, extraordinary application and longevity. And do-it-yourselfers also like Benjamin Moore paints because of its ‘one coat will do it’ characteristic.”

Benjamin Moore has consistently ranked at the top of national customer satisfaction paint surveys conducted by J.D. Powers, a global information services company. Benjamin Moore paint is only available at independently owned stores.

“We are excited for the larger showroom space to showcase building materials, millwork, cabinetry, countertops, a broader range of builder’s hardware and tools, seasonal products and other items that customers are requesting,” Collins said.

Woodford Lumber and Home is a full-service lumberyard and retail center with name brand windows, cabinets, countertops, doors, hardware, decking materials, dock materials, millwork and paint.  Experienced staff design new construction or remodeling plans.  The signature paint store area and showroom help customers envision their new home or remodel dreams.
