GHV girls golf team rolling over competition

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls golf team is rolling, picking up three wins last week and earning medalist honors at all three.

The Cardinals won their home meet on Monday, April 11, against North Union and Belmond-Klemme.  GHV carded a 207, while North Union recorded a 240 and Belmond-Klemme ended with a 282.

Karmen Kay McPherren (Mathews), 62, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, April 16, 2016, at the Oakwood Care Center.

A closed service will be held near Thornton, Iowa on Saturday, April 23.  A celebration of life gathering will follow from 5-8 p.m., in the Veranda Room, at the Best Western, in Clear Lake.  All that knew and loved Karmen are encouraged to attend.

Clear Lake names new head coaches

A fixture within the Clear Lake High School wrestling program has been chosen to replace retiring Head Coach Gary Weber.

Mike Lester, a 1999 state champion for Clear Lake, who eventually returned to his alma mater to teach and coach,  has been named as the new Head Lion, pending School Board approval.

Clear Lake opens season with a 3-1 win over GHV

The Clear Lake girls soccer team provided new head coach Steve Faber with a win in the season opener Thursday, April 7.  The Lions topped Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, 3-1.

“For the first game of the season,  I was pleased.  We need to keep working hard and take it one game at a time,” said Faber.

Senior Erin O’Tool had two goals and an assist to lead the team.

Clear Lake girls split a pair of tennis matches

The Clear Lake girls tennis team went .500 in the first two matches of the season.  The Lions were defeated, 6-3, by Mason City on April 4, then topped Iowa Falls-Alden by the same score on April 7.
