  The Ventura boys dropped a conference match-up, but beat a non-conference team to move their record to 5-10 overall and 4-4 in the conference.

    It was a tale of two halves for the Ventura Vikings when they hosted NSKAR on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

4x4 Sport Club

Three Clear Lake High School graduates earned their place in the 4x4 Sport Club.  The trio were recognized at the basketball game on Friday, Dec. 16.  To achieve this accomplishment, a student must have participated in four sports each year of the four years of their high school career.  Earning the award (L-R) is Rea Faber, Taylor Diehl and Rachel Kopriva.  Faber

Girls compete at All-Iowa Dance

 

Alexis Atkinson, Maddy Hartnett and Maddie Hess represented the Clear Lake High School Dance Team on March 2-3 at the All-Iowa Dance.  The All-Iowa Honor Dance Team made its 31st appearance at the State Girl’s Basketball Tournament.  One 

Lions pick up wins over Bishop Garrigan and Eagle Grove

 

The Clear Lake boys are continuing to ramp up their play as the regular season winds down.  Last week the Lions (13-4) picked up a win over Bishop Garrigan and Eagle Grove.

 

CL girls learn from loss to Mason City to top IF-A

 

The Clear Lake girls built upon a loss to number one ranked Mason City Monday to score a win against Iowa Falls-Alden on the road Friday.  The victory improved the Lions’ record to 8-3.

Friday night the Lions will host Hampton-Dumont.  The game has been designated as a fundraiser for cancer awareness and research support.  Free will donations will be accepted at the door of the girls and boys games. Wearing pink is also encouraged for this Coaches Against Cancer event.

Cards upset #9 rated North Iowa

 

What sometimes may seem like an impossible task, can actually be accomplished with a “never give up attitude.”  The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys basketball team proved just that when they topped number nine rated North Iowa on the road Tuesday night, Dec. 17.

“North Iowa posed a matchup problem for us and they are very balanced,” said Coach Joe Albertson.  “Early in the game we had trouble matching up, shooting the ball and possessing the ball.”

State honors for CLHS Dance Team

 

CLHS Dance Team members participated in the Iowa State Dance Team Competition held on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 29 and 30.  The Iowa state competition is officially the nation’s largest state competition, with over 520 routines performed in two days.  Clear Lake 

Area runners compete at State Cross Country Meet

 

The Class 3A State Cross Country Meet was held on Saturday, Oct. 27, in Fort Dodge.  Clear Lake had one individual runner competing in the meet, while Garner-Hayfield/Ventura/West Hancock had two individual runners and the boys team competing.

Clear Lake’s  Antonio DiMarco finished in the middle of the pack, placing 66th in a time of 17:17.

Cards stack the deck in their favor

 

No one was breathing easy during the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura football game Friday night until the final second ticked off the clock.  The Cardinals were able to hold a one-point advantage for a 21-20 win over South Central Calhoun in Class 2A, District 2 play.

Clear Lake competes in home meet

 

The Clear Lake Lions hosted a cross country meet Thursday, Sept. 13, at the Baptist Camp in Ventura.  The Lion boys finished second in the 11-team field, while the girls team, which was without a couple of its regular varsity runners, was seventh.
