CL girls stand at 11-3 in conference play

 

The Clear Lake girls set up their important game with St. Ed’s with victories over Clarion-Goldfield and Eagle Grove, but a slow start prevented the Lions from upsetting the conference leader.  The Lions are now 12-4 overall and 11-3 in the North Central Conference.  With their win, St. Ed’s earned some breathing room at the top of leader board.  The

The Clear Lake boys basketball team played two games last week, but won three!

The Lions have now been awarded a win in their Dec. 18 game at Bishop Garrigan because Garrigan used an ineligible player during the contest. Garrigan had won the game 79-67 and were 7-3 overall and 6-2 in the North Central Conference heading into the

Garner-Hayfield/Ventura and Mason City face off in an Iowa Hall of Pride Challenge basketball game

 

Despite a lopsided score, Garner-Hayfield/Ventura Head Girls Basketball Coach Matt Erpelding said he liked what he saw from his team on Friday, Nov. 16, when the Cardinals faced Mason City in an Iowa Hall of Pride Challenge.

 

Lions drop first round of Regional competition to Webster City

 

The volleyball season came to a close Monday night for the Clear Lake girls.  For the second time in less than a week Webster City edged the Lions.   Monday’s Lynx victory came in the opening round of Regionals.

 

Webster City earned a 3-1 win by scores of 25-18, 26-24, 22-25, 25-21 on their home court.

Tough challenge brings out the best in Clear Lake harriers

 

Clear Lake harriers faced their toughest competition of the year at the 20-team Algona Invitational held Monday, Sept. 24.  The challenge brought out the best in the Lions, as several runners posted their best times of the year.

The boys were paced to their eighth place finish by Jake Iverson.  He took nearly a minute off his previous best time to place eighth in 16:38.  

Lions regroup to defeat Crestwood

 

The Lions took the first step toward building a new win streak by regrouping and defeating Crestwood 19-12 Friday night on the road.  The win was the final tune-up to the Class 3A District 3 season, which begins this Friday at Lion’s Field.  Waverly-Shell Rock is the opponent for the 2012 Homecoming game.

G-H/V team motto, “Together We Can,” will guide 2012 season

 

The team philosophy of the G-H/V volleyball team says it all: “Together We Can.”  Despite the combining of two programs, Coach Tracy Schmidt and her team are committed to combining two programs to make a strong team that is ready to compete.

 

Bicycle racing takes over the town; Zirbel wins Criterium race

   Clear Lake’s Fourth of July fireworks gave way to bicycle racing excitement Saturday and Sunday. 

Trapshooting team wins State title

    The Mason City Red trapshooting team, which included Mike Asbe from Clear Lake, won the Iowa High School State Trap Shoot Saturday in Cedar Falls.  The event was hosted by the Iowa State Trapshooting Association.
