Shared superintendent contract moves toward renewal

The Clear Lake School Board is expected to second the actions of their counterparts in Mason City next week and renew a 28E agreement which provides for the sharing of Schools Superintendent Anita Micich.
    Monday the Mason City Board voted unanimously to continue the sharing agreement which began last year.
  

Season ends for CL tennis team

 

 

Team competition came to an end for the Clear Lake girls tennis team Saturday, May 16, in Regional competition at the Wartburg College indoor facilities in Waverly.  The Lions will, however, participate in the Individual Regionals Thursday, May 21, in Decorah.

Due to a forfeit by Hampton-Dumont, Clear Lake moved to the second round of Regional competition and met host Waverly-Shell Rock.   The Go-Hawks shutout the Lions, 5-0.

DeVries named new head football coach

Jared DeVries, an Iowa high school football standout who went on to become a college All-American and played professional football, has been named as the next head coach for Clear Lake High School.

CL tennis team tops Webster City; falls to Boone

The Clear Lake girls tennis team is now 5-2 after splitting a pair of matches last week.  The Lions topped Webster City, 8-1, on Tuesday, April 21, then dropped their first-ever meeting with Boone, 7-2, on Thursday, April 23.

CL boys soccer falls to W-SR power house

The Clear Lake boys soccer team played got a true test of their ability last week, as the Lions tallied another win against North Iowa competition before taking on Class 2A power Waverly-Shell Rock.

CL 5, CAL 0

The Lions recorded another shut-out Tuesday, April 14, at Latimer.  Clear Lake topped CAL, 5-0.

In the ninth minute of the contest Ernie Miszewski finished an attack on goal for the first score of the contest.     

Doebel continues winning ways

Brennen Doebel, a senior wrestler on the Clear Lake High School team, was invited to participate in the Annual North/South All Star Meet, held on March 28, in Charles City, Iowa.  The top seniors wrestlers in the state are invited to the meet.

Doebel faced State Champion Tristan Birt, of Dubuque Wahlert, and defeated him, 4-0.

Clear Lake team places 7th at State Duals

The Clear Lake wrestling team capped off a very successful season with a thrilling 37-36 win over Central Lyon/George-Little Rock Wednesday to place seventh at the Class 2A State Duel Meet.

“I couldn’t be more proud of this team” stated coach Weber.  “Central Lyon was 19-0 coming into the tournament, so it is a real feather in the kids’ caps.  Our schedule really helped us prepare for the state tournaments. I would like to thank our athletic director Dale 

Winning streak continues for GHV

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys kept their winning streak alive and picked up two more North Iowa Conference wins last week to move their record to 13-4 in the league and 14-4 overall.

GHV 70, North Union 54

Despite a slow start, the GHV boys found their stride and defeated North Union (5-9, 6-9), 70-54, on Tuesday, Jan. 27.

Clear Lake girls lack rhythm; fall to Humboldt, 61-55

Clear Lake had a hard time finding their rhythm in their first game back from the holiday break Jan. 9.  Humboldt took advantage of Lion mistakes and came away with a 61-55 North Central Conference win.  The loss dropped the Lions to 4-4 overall and 3-2 in the NCC.

“We weren’t able to match their energy in this game,” said Clear Lake Coach Bart Smith. 

 

Lions top IF-A; fall to Clarion-Goldfield-Dows

Clear Lake spilt a pair of North Central Conference wrestling duals at home Thursday. The Lions wrestled Iowa Falls-Alden and defending state champion Clarion-Goldfield-Dows.
