Mayor directs police chief to lead investigation of drowning

    The City of Clear Lake is initiating a review of all matters surrounding the drowning and recovery of the body of a Clear Lake teenager June 30.
    Mayor Nelson Crabb said he feels an “incident review” would be due diligence by the city.  It will involve all parties who responded to the June 30 emergency involving 16-year-old Jerrad Ramon.   Crabb asked Clear Lake Police Chief Greg Peterson to spearhead the review.

Don Hauge named July 4th Parade Grand Marshal

    

The Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Fourth of July Committee has announced local business owner and community volunteer Don

Hauge will serve as the Grand Marshal for the city’s July 4 parade.  The honor will bring Hauge out from behind the scenes of Clear Lake’s biggest event, into the spotlight for some much-deserved recognition.

GHV girls soccer team peaking at right time

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls soccer team is peaking at the right time of the season.  The Cardinals picked up two wins and finished as runner-ups at the GHV Tournament held on Saturday.

GHV 10, CAL/H-D/B-K

The Cardinals had 26 shots on goal on their way to a shut-out over CAL/H-D/B-K, 10-0, on Monday, April 27.

GHV competes at H-D

It was a middle of the road kind of night for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys track team when they competed in the Hampton-Dumont Boy’s Invitational on Monday, April 20.  The Cardinals finished in the middle of the eight team meet with 90 points.  The Denver Cyclones won the meet with 150 points, followed by Aplington-Parkersburg with 147 and Clarion-Goldfield with 95.

Ezra Marroquin was the only Cardinal to claim a win.  Marroquin won the 400 meter dash with a time of 53.13.

Charlson resigns football coaching position

Longtime Clear Lake High School Assistant Football Coach Curt Charlson has submitted his coaching resignation, effective for the 2015 season.  Charlson has been an integral part of the successful Lion football program since the fall of 1974. 

 

Adams named Athlete of the Week at Kirkwood College

Former Clear Lake High School prep baseball player, Ozzie Adams, was named Athlete of the Week at Kirkwood Community College, located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Lions top Forest City, 55-35, in Regional action

Three more wins have the Clear Lake girls on the right track at tournament time.  Last week the Lions wrapped up North Central Conference play with wins on the road over Webster City and Algona.  Then the Lions (16-6 and rated number 13 in the final Class 3A poll) pummeled Forest City in the first round of Regional play, 55-35.  In a repeat of last years’ second round post-season game, the team will face Garner-Hayfield/Ventura tonight in a 7 p.m. game in the Clear Lake High School gymnasium.  The winner of that game will play for the Regional title Saturday, Feb.

The Clear Lake girls basketball team upset third ranked (3A) Hampton-Dumont Tuesday, but stumbled in another key conference matchup to go to 8-5 overall and 5-3 in the NCC.

Dane Waldron, a Clear Lake High School senior, has signed a letter of intent to continue his golf career at Northwestern College next fall.
