City pursues ambulance purchase

The Clear Lake City Council heard a request Monday for the purchase of a new ambulance.  The vehicle would replace one of two units the city purchased in 2005.

City Administrator Scott Flory reported that in recent months the 2006 Ford F450, one of two ambulances the city purchased in 2005, has experienced significant engine and other mechanical problems that make it unfit for 

further use as an emergency response unit.  The City fire chief and mechanic solicited input from a variety of sources regarding a potential replacement unit.

Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce announces Ignite Campaign co-chairmen

 

The Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce has announced that Casey and Hunter Callanan and Mark and Kristin Ebeling have agreed to co-chair the “IGNITE Clear Lake Campaign.”  The community-wide project is in the initial stages of raising money to secure the annual fireworks display, which is free for all to view each year.

Waverly educator tabbed for Clear Lake Middle School principal position

 

Steve Kwikkel, of Waverly, Iowa has accepted the position of Clear Lake Middle School Principal for the 2013-2014 school year, according to Clear Lake Superintendent Anita Micich.  Kwikkel was chosen from a pool of five final candidates for the position.  

The Clear Lake Board of Education will receive the recommendation to hire Kwikkel at a special session of the Board on Monday, June 10, at 5:15 p.m.

Strength, conditioning program may continue into school year

 

The Clear Lake School Board is expected to extend a weight training program, overseen by a paid professional, from a summer camp experience into the regular school year.

Volunteer Coach Jared DeVries and Activities Director Dale Ludwig spoke with the Board Monday night and shared a plan which they say will help athletes, as well as students in general, become more 

physically fit and encourage general wellness. 

CL Middle School principal accepts Mason City job

 

Clear Lake Middle School Principal Dan Long will be leaving the district at the end of the school year to accept the position of principal at Mason City High School.

Superintendent Anita Micich made the announcement Friday.

School Board settles on calendar

 

Parents can plan on weekly early dismissals

 

The Clear Lake School Board approved a school calendar Monday night which includes a 2 p.m. dismissal each Wednesday during the 2013-14 school year.  The early dismissal provides time for state-required teacher in-service time.
