The 10th Annual Harvest Festival brought a large crowd to downtown Clear Lake Saturday to sample salsa, wine and other seasonal treats. Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tim Coffey said 80 vendors participated in this year’s event, 

Open Bible Church members travel to Tijuana to build house, relationships

 Members of the Open Bible Church in Clear Lake traveled to Tijuana, Mexico last month to build a house. In between the hammering and painting they crafted something much greater.

Child okay after second story fall

On Wednesday, Oct. 1, at about 3:56 p.m. the Clear Lake Police Department was called to 708 S. 8th St. on a report of an 18-month-old child falling through a window screen.  The child fell approximately 15-feet from the window.

Comets prove to be too much for the Cardinals

It was a hard-fought loss for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura Cardinals (1-4, 0-2), who fell to the Charles City Comets (5-1, 2-1) Friday night. The Cardinals’ usually tough run game had the breaks thrown on it by a stout Comet defense, forcing the team to resort to the air.

 

A tale of two halves for Clear Lake

Lions end strong with 39-12 win over Cowboys

For the second week in a row the Clear Lake Lions played drastically different halves of football.  And again, a strong second half broke open the game and resulted in a victory.  The Lions produced 232-yards of offense in the second half, compared to just 20 for Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, and posted a 39-12 win Friday to move to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in Class 2A District 2.

GHV boys finish as runner-up at Humboldt X-C meet

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura cross country teams have been competing against some of the best individuals and teams in the state and also nationally, and they’ve been doing well. The boys and girls teams competed in Humboldt and at the University of Minnesota last week.

 On Monday, Sept. 22, the GHV teams competed at Humboldt, which has one of the more difficult courses they will see this year. The boys team finished as runner-up behind Algona, which boasts a ranked 3A program. The GHV/WH girls team finished in seventh place.

Cardinals move record to 14-7

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura volleyball team moved their record to 14-7 after a busy week on the court.

Thursday, Sept. 22, was a good night for the GHV volleyball team as they shut-out two conference foes.

“Tonight wasn’t our smoothest and cleanest volleyball, but the girls found a way to battle and finish both matches in three,” said Coach Kelsey Steffens.

Lions battle hard against St. Ed’s

The Clear Lake volleyball team came back from a two-game deficit to knot the score with St. Ed’s, but the Gaels pulled out a 3-2 victory Thursday

CL boys place 6th at Humboldt X-C meet; girls place 11th

Clear Lake cross country teams tested their mettle against a very talented field at Humboldt Sept. 22.  The Lion boys team finished sixth among 20 teams competing.  Due to injury and illness, the Lion girls team was not able to run a complete squad.
