Lions give 3rd ranked W-SR run for the money

The Clear Lake boys soccer team advanced to the championship game and gave third ranked (2A) Waverly-Shell Rock all they could handle at the Waverly Soccer Tournament played Saturday, May 10. The title game was deadlocked a 0-0 after 60-minutes of play. The Go-Hawks eventually won the championship in a shoot out.

Lions take title at Jim Ahrens CoEd Relays

The Clear Lake boys edged St. Ansgar by just one point to capture the title at the Jim Ahrens CoEd Relays run Thursday, May 8, at Lion’s Field. Coach AJ Feuerbach said one key to the win was the third place finish earned by the 4x800 relay.

Lions drop two; move record to 7-2

The Clear Lake boys tennis team went .500 in a busy week. The Lions topped Aplington-Parkersburg and Hampton-Dumont, but was upended by powerhouse Fort Dodge St. Edmond and Boone. The Lions are now 7-2.

 On Monday, May 5, the Lions hosted Aplington-Parkersburg. The Lions captured all but one singles match, posting an 8-1 victory.

Time to focus for CL boys golf team

The Clear Lake boys golf team spent much of last week on the links and Coach Bart Smith is challenging his players to begin to put all of their experience together heading into the post-season.

“We competed well in some of our tournaments and won a quad that we were suppose to win, but right now if we don’t turn 

things around and start focusing on things that we have talked about to shoot lower, we are an average team that will stay home during State golf. Putting and chipping is why we haven’t improved our scores.”

Clear Lake girls soccer team tops Lynx

The Clear Lake girls walked on the Webster City field Tuesday, May 6, knowing it was going to be a challenging game.
“Webster City has always brought out some tough soccer play, and we had to play our best on their home field. The extremely high winds added an extra challenge to the evening,” said Lions Coach Nick DiMarco.

Bieber wins the long jump at home meet

A first place finish in the long jump highlighted the Clear Lake girls’ performance at the Jim Ahrens Relays held Thursday, May 8, in Clear Lake. Bieber jumped 13’ 8” to win the event.

Girls tennis team puts in a big week on the court

The Clear Lake girls tennis team is heading into the home stretch of the season with a flurry of meets. The Lions traveled to Iowa Falls and Charles City last week and took part in a weekend tournament in Waverly. Clear Lake’s dual record now stands at 6-2.

 For the second time this season, the Lions topped Iowa Falls-Alden, 7-2. Highlights of the match included Clear Lake’s top player, Alexis Atkinson, avenging a 9-11 loss with a 10-6 victory. Kylie Bottjen, Courtney Anderson and Kirsten Jordan also earned wins and all three Lions doubles teams won.

Village family thanks Severtson

 John Severtson’s 31 years of bringing “comfort, joy, security and hope to countless people” was celebrated Saturday at Opportunity Village. Severtson was honored as he steps down as Chief Executive Officer at the Village at the end of the month.
