GHV bows out of playoffs in 34-13 loss

It was a tough way to end the season as the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura Cardinals (7-4) were eliminated in the first round of playoffs by the Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley Nighthawks (9-1), 34-13. Big plays made the difference for the Nighthawks as both teams managed over 300 yards of offense.

Clear Lake sinks Ballard Bombers, 35-7

The Clear Lake Lions roared back from a slow start to sink the Ballard Bombers 35-7 in the opening round of the Class 3A State play-offs Wednesday night, Oct. 30. 

Area runners compete at State Cross Country Meet

Three area athletes competed in the Class 3A State Cross Country meet held over the weekend in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Antonio DiMarco, a senior from Clear Lake, finished 31st in a field of 130.  He ran the course in 

17:02.  DiMarco improved his finishing mark by 35 places from last year’s State meet.

Robert L. Frayne

Robert L. “Bob” Frayne, 64, of Clear Lake, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013 at the First Congregational Church, Clear 

Lake, with the Rev. Brad Thornton presiding.  Burial followed in the Clear Lake Cemetery where military honors were provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W.

Should friends desire, memorials may be left to Hospice of North Iowa in Bob’s name.
