Mavis Hobbiebrunken

 

 

Mavis O. Hobbiebrunken, 84, Clear Lake, Iowa, formerly of the Thornton, Iowa, area, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012 at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

A funeral service for Mavis was held Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Thornton, with The Rev. Rhea Evanson officiating.  Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Thornton.

Those wishing to give a memorial in her memory may wish to consider memorial contributions to the St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Lucile Snopek

 

Lucile L. (Bednar) Snopek, 96, of Ventura, Iowa, went to her eternal reward on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa, surrounded by her loved ones.  

A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Clear Lake, with the Reverend Jon Gossman officiating.   Burial was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Manly, Iowa.

Marcella Johnson, 87, of 20 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake, after a short illness.

     Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, Clear Lake with the Rev. Dr. Rhoda Preston officiating.  Following the service she will be cremated and a

Jean Schramm, 80, of Clear Lake, Iowa, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013 at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa.

Memorial services were held Monday, Jan. 7, 2013 at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with Interim Pastor Kirk Wilkie of Zion Lutheran Church officiating.  Family suggests memorials to Jean Schramm Memorial Fund.

Jean was born March 21, 1932 in Great Yarmouth, England, the daughter of Jack and Agnes (Darby) Taylor.  She attended school in England.

Vehicle, foot chase result in arrest

 

A pair of Mason City residents were arrested after a short vehicle and foot pursuit in Clear Lake Tuesday, Jan. 1.

According to a report from the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department, an incident started at the intersection of Interstate 35 and  4th Avenue South in Clear Lake just before midnight.  It started when a deputy attempted to stop Michael Bush, 34, for driving while under suspension.  They attempted to pull 

Council sets public hearings for re-zoning, re-financing

 

The Clear Lake City Council met Monday to set a pair of public hearing dates.

On Jan. 21 the Council invites public input to a recommendation from the Planning and Zoning Commission that the North 35th Street area known as “Green Acres” be re-zoned from light industrial to medium density single family residential. The Council will also consider entering into a loan agreement, in a principal amount not to exceed $1.26 million to refund three outstanding City general obligation bond issues. 

John Bledsoe

 

John Junior Bledsoe, 84, of 523 10th Ave. N, Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012 at home. 

Due to his wishes he will be cremated and a memorial graveside service will be held at a later time in the Clear Lake Cemetery.  Family suggest memorials to John Junior Bledsoe Memorial Fund in care of his daughter Donna Prescott, 46117 212th Ave., Lake Mills, IA 50450

John was born Oct. 10, 1928 in Hartville, Mo., the son of John Adison and Pearl Gean (Nichols) Bledsoe.

Mildred Anderson

 

Mildred Merlea Anderson, 99 years, was born in Algona, Iowa, Jan. 13, 1913 and passed away surrounded by family at her winter home in Bradenton, Fla., on Dec. 25, 2012.  She was 19 days short of her 100th birthday.

  She was a longtime resident of Clear Lake, Iowa, and recently had been living with her daughter and family in Urbandale, Iowa, spending summers in Clear Lake at her cottage on Grandview Point.
