Area players named to INA All-State teams

    A pair of Clear Lake Lions and a Ventura Viking have earned All-State football honors in their respective classes.
    Clear Lake’s Logan Kellogg and Tanner Truesdell were named to the Class 3A Second Team.  Ventura’s Ryan Schmitz was a Third Team selection among 8-player teams.

CL girls fall to 4th ranked Mohawks

The Clear Lake girls basketball team opened the season under tough conditions Friday.  They were on the road and on the court of the number four ranked (4A) Mason City Mohawks.  Mason City overpowered the Lions, 92-36.

Mason City Hockey Team to host Ames in home opener

   Wednesday, night, Nov. 23, is the first home game for the Mason City Hockey Team.  Five Clear Lake High School students will take the ice as part of the team.

Ventura hosts hearing for whole grade sharing

    The Ventura Board of Education held a Public Hearing on Monday, Nov. 21, to discuss a whole grade sharing agreement with Garner-Hayfield Schools.  
    About 100 people attended the hearing, which is the second of three steps toward a final agreement. School Boards from both districts started the process by approving resolutions of intent in October. The next step is for the Garner-Hayfield School Board to also host a public hearing. That hearing has been scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, Dec.

Loose ends tied up on city projects, reports

    The Clear Lake City Council put the wraps on a number of projects Monday night during one of the final regular Council meetings of the year.
    Jason Petersburg, of Veenstra & Kimm, reported work on the CDBG Sanitary Sewer Collection System Improvement Project is now complete between North Shore Drive and Buddy Holly Place, and on Highway 18 west to Buddy Holly Place.  And after making a repair to a casing pipe, R&R Excavating is expected to finish work on the final

Ornaments are ready

    The Giving Tree, a program to help local families this holiday season, is now in place in the Clear Lake Mirror-Reporter office, 12 N. 4th St.  This is the 22nd year the Mirror-Reporter has teamed with Clear Lake and Ventura Schools, Head Start and Charlie Brown for the program.

Carol Rannals

    Carol J. Rannals, 75, 405 27th Ave. S., Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.  A memorial service was held Friday, Nov. 11, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating. Memorials may be given to North Iowa Hospice and American Cancer Association.

Eight CL players named First Team All-District

Eight Clear Lake football players were named First Team All-District for Class 3A District #3.  Three more players earned Honorable Mention recognition.
    Earning First Team All-District distinction was Gavin Sheakley, defensive back; Logan Kellogg, defensive line; Tanner Tusha, interior linebacker; Tanner Truesdell, outside linebacker/defensive end; Ozzie Adams, quarterback; Michael Keeran, wide receiver; and Chase Crosby and Bryson Hamilton, offensive linemen.

Ventura lands five players on All-District lists

Five members of the 2011 Ventura football team were named to All-District teams for District 3.
    Seniors Joel Watson and Ryan Schmitz earned First Team honors.  Watson was named First Team Receiver, while Schmitz earned First Team Quarterback.
    Schmitz led the district in passing yards and passing touchdowns.  He set the single season record at Ventura passing for 1,736 yards.  He also had 1,263 rushing yards.
