Ainley earns post-season honor

Clear Lake senior Jaden Ainley has been named to the Class 3A First Team by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association.

Ainley led the 2021-22 Lions in a number of statistical categories, including scoring, field goal percentage and steals.

In 23 games played this season, Ainley made 159 of 307 field goals attempted (52 percent) and scored 424-points.  She recorded a team-high 65 steals during the season and was second in rebounding with 109.

The Clear Lake boys track team competed in two indoor meets last week.   The team competed at the Dickinson Indoor Track meet, held at the University of Northern Iowa and the IATC 2A Indoor Championships held at Iowa State University.

“It was awesome to be able to compete in early March after a few weeks of quality practices,” said Coach Troy Tysdahl.

Airport searches for new carrier

The Mason City Airport Commission was scheduled to meet late Tuesday afternoon to discuss its search for a new commercial air carrier.

Airport Manager David Sims announced last week that SkyWest Airlines has provided the United States Department of Transportation with a 90-day Notice of its Intent to Discontinue Service to 29 Essential Air Service Communities, including Mason City.  

SkyWest is citing the ongoing pilot staffing shortages as the reason for ending service.
