Voters must choose new representative for 4th District

For the first time in eight years, voters in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District will hit the polls to choose a new representative for the seat.

The race pits Democratic candidate J.D. Scholten, who narrowly lost to Republican incumbent Steve King in 2018, against Randy Feenstra, former Iowa Senator who unseated King in the primary election in February.

Robert Leonard Kimball, 96, of Ventura, died Friday, October 23, 2020, at MercyOne North Iowa Hospice in Mason City.A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 30, 2020, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 1st Ave. N., Clear Lake. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park at a later date.Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home where masks will be required.Robert was born October 10, 1924, the son of Walter and Ruth Alice (Whetsler) Kimball in Corwith, IA.

Ron H. Brinkman, 77, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2020, at MercyOne North Iowa Hospice, in Mason City.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Clear Lake VFW, 219 Main Ave., Clear Lake.

Ron was born Oct. 29, 1942, the son of Richard “Dick” and Charlotte (Richardson) Brinkman, in Des Moines. He married Pat Simon in 1962, and to that union four children were born. He later married Peggy Francis in 1994.

Velva Louise Peterson, 95, of Mason City passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020 at MercyOne North Iowa Hospice, in Mason City.

  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, at First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Carol Kress officiating.  Interment will be at Elmwood - St. Joseph Cemetery. Due to the pandemic, masks would be appreciated, and social distancing guidelines will be followed.

Paul F. Schafer entered heaven on Sept 29, 2020, in Houston, Texas.  He always said, “Don’t feel sorry for me when I’m gone because I’ve lived a wonderful life.”  Paul was loved by all who knew him.  His spirit of goodness and generosity carried him all through his life.
