Local firm gets bid for Wellness Center

The Clear Lake School Board awarded the contract for a community wellness center at its Tuesday, Aug. 18, meeting.

Dean Snyder Construction, Clear Lake, was the low bidder for the project, which is a partnership between the school district and City of Clear Lake.  DSC’s base bid for the work was $10.2 million.  With alternates, the winning bid was just over $10.6 million.

Mary R. Henningsen

Mary Rose Henningsen, 93, died Feb. 10, 2020, at the Unity Point Hospice, Villa Care Center, Fort Dodge, Iowa.

A Graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 28, 2020, at the Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with Rev. Dr. Pat Hall officiating.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, is in charge of local arrangements.

Mary Rose Henningsen, 93, died Feb. 10, 2020, at the Unity Point Hospice, Villa Care Center, Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Bonnie Marie Doebel, 88, of Clear Lake, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2020, at her home.

Per Bonnie’s wishes, her body has been cremated and no services are planned.

Bonnie was born Aug. 20, 1932, the daughter of Emery and Velma (Bartusek) Cooper at home in Worth County. She married Marcus Doebel on June 21, 1950, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church parsonage, in Manly. He preceded her in death on March 25, 2005.

Highway 18 construction, 1970 - Activities in Clear Lake in 1970 during the hot, summer days weren’t just confined strictly to pleasure.  Construction workers were putting in long hours working on Highway 18, which was slated to make the road a four-lane by fall.
