No competition for Clear Lake girls

It had to be a nervous bus ride for the St. Edmond girls when they headed to Clear Lake on Friday, Dec. 20.  The 0-6 Gaels faced the 7-0 Lions, who have been putting together a pretty impressive resume of wins. Clear Lake made St. Edmond another victim in a 77-18 romp.

St. Edmond knew they had their work cut out for them right away, as Clear Lake opened the game with a 22-6 first quarter start.

Patricia J. “Pat” Larsen, passed away Friday, Dec. 20, 2019 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.

A visitation to celebrate Pat’s life will be held from 2-5 p.m.  on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N 4th St, Clear Lake.

Lions dominate Gaels, 62-32

Prior to the holiday break Clear Lake captured a lopsided win against St. Edmond on Friday, Dec. 20. The Lions dominated the Gaels (1-5) in a 62-32 victory.

“It’s always a tough place to play - in the ‘Fishtank” vs. St. Eds.  We came out and got some good looks early and took advantage of our size and athleticism to jump to an early lead in the first quarter,” said Coach Jeremey Ainley.

The Lions outscored the Gaels 20-7 in the first quarter.

The Battle at Waterloo did just what Coach Doug Munn was hoping.  It gave his wrestlers exposure to some of the toughest competition in the state.  The event capped a wild week of action— nine duals in five days, all on the road— before the holiday break.

A sign of things to come

Larry Day, founder of the Color of the Wind Kite Festival, took advantage of warm termpatures and light winds to fly his new kite, “Wanda,” near downtown Clear Lake on Friday.  Larry and Kay Day recently announced the 2020 Color The Wind kite festival will be held Saturday, Feb. 15.  At that time, Wanda will be joined by dozens of other sea creatures, teddy bears, horses and maybe even a flying pig!  Don’t miss it! - Reporter photo by Chris Barragy.
