A Clear Lake family is hoping public support and appeals to the State government can help to save a local business and preserve much-needed boat lift space on Clear Lake.

Special start to the season

The Clear Lake football season got off to a special start, as senior football captains Dalton Grell (3), Max McKenna (77) and Zach Lester (2) came onto the field for the coin toss.  They included Reid Hartwig and Edan Thoe in the ceremony as a way to honor their brother and friend, Cade Hartwig, who died unexpectedly last year in an accident. Reid wore a Lions jersey with the number 55, which is his Dad‘s number on the Clear Lake Fire Department.

Lake man arrested after high speed chase

A Clear Lake man was arrested following a high speed chase in Mason City Tuesday, Aug. 29.

A Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to stop a black 2008 Kia Optima driven by Lance Gruelke, of Clear Lake, around 12:37 a.m.  Gruelke fled from a Cerro Gordo County Deputy and a chase began. Speeds reportedly reached 120 mph as Gruelke drove north on Eisenhower Ave. in Mason City, then east on 4th St. SW, back west on the frontage road, then back south on Eisenhower before going east on 19th St. SW.

Meet the candidates for three GHV School Board seats

Three Board of Education seats in the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura School District will be determined in the Sept. 12 election.

Incumbents Jack Toppin and Steve Watson will be seeking re-election, while longtime Board member Larry Costello is not.  Costello served on the Ventura School District School Board and then the GHV School Board for a total of 41 years. A reception is planned for Costello Sept. 9.

Coach Jared DeVries said his team is excited to start the 2017 season.
