Firefighters dispatched to care center

The Clear Lake Fire Department was dispatched to Oakwood Care Center at 400 Highway 18 West, on the report of a fire in the basement Wednesday, Jan. 4.

At 7:52 a.m. the Clear Lake Fire Department responded with one ladder company, a command vehicle and one ambulance. Upon arrival, the fire had already been extinguished by the maintenance employee, and residents had been moved to safe locations within the building by staff.

The CLFD was on the scene for approximately one and one half hours ventilating the building.

Lion grapplers capture team title at Forest City Invitational

The Clear Lake wrestling team continues to prime itself for the post-season.  The Lions dropped a close decision against Humboldt early in the week, then captured the team title at the Forest City Invitational on Saturday.

The Clear Lake girls continued to build their resume with two more wins last week.  The Lions, now ranked seventh in Class 3A, lead the North Central Conference wit a 5-0 record; they are 10-1 overall.

Case records 100th win; Shaw sets school record

It was a big week for the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura grapplers, as they returned from winter break to compete in two meets and one tournament.

Rockford Meet

The Cardinals traveled to Rockford on Tuesday, Jan. 3, where they faced Iowa Falls-Alden, Central Elkader and Rockford.  GHV topped Rockford, 45-35, and Central Elkader, 60-12, but lost to Iowa Falls-Alden, 49-31.
