Theresia Hughes

Theresia Ann Hughes, 62, of Clear Lake, formerly of Blanco, Texas, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center, in Mason City, Iowa.

A graveside inurnment was held on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015, at St. Jacobs Cemetery in Graettinger, Iowa, with Fr. Merlin Schrad officiating.

Family suggests memorial contributions to the Theresia Hughes Memorial Fund.

Theresia was born July 2, 1953, the daughter of William and Bernadette (Nolan) Hughes, in Estherville, Iowa.  After graduating from Terril High School, she attended Iowa Lakes Community College and earned a degree in nursing.

Theresia worked in nursing for over 40 years primarily as a geriatric nurse in nursing homes; most of that time in Blanco.  She enjoyed gardening, reading and was a great cook.  She especially loved spending time with family and friends, and was very proud of her Irish heritage.

Theresia is survived by a son, Deacon Newhouse, of Buffalo, N.Y.; three brothers, Frank (Eva) Hughes, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, William Hughes of Clear Lake and Robert Hughes, of Sioux City, Iowa; two sisters, Cecelia (Albert) Finnegan, of Ruthven, Iowa, and Mary Murphy, of Olympia, Wash.; numerous nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Agnes Hughes, of Graettinger, Iowa and Linda Hughes of Emmetsburg, Iowa; very special friends, Darlene and Denny Bollig of Fenton, Iowa; and her loving dog, Bear.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and four brothers, Vincent, John, Richard and James.

Ward - Van Slyke Colonial Chapels, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
