CL girls top Osage and Charles City in tennis action

The Clear Lake girls tennis team improved its record to 2-5 last week with a win over Charles City and loss to Osage.

Osage 6, CL 3

The Lions fell to a tough Osage team for the second time this season on Monday, April 25.  The only singles point for the Lions came from the play of Chloe Mueller, who defeated her opponent 10-5.  Gretchen Jones, Reagan Brackey, and Maddy Brant all fell just short with 10-6 losses.

In doubles play, Mueller and Brackey dominated Alexa Maakestad and Hailey Gentz to win, 10-2.  The final doubles point came from the aggressive net play of Jones and Kiersten Baalson who held on to defeat Klaire Chisholm and Brandy Nauman, 11-10 (7-5 tiebreaker).

Junior varsity wins

CL 6, Charles City 3

The Lions defeated Charles City, 6-3, at home Tuesday, April 26.

Clear Lake started out strong in singles to take a 4-2 lead.  Gretchen Jones and Chloe Mueller easily defeated their opponents 10-2 and 10-3.

Kiersten Baalson stuck to the basics as she won 10-7.  Maddy Brant refused to give up as she battled an evenly matched opponent, Emma Heiderbrink, and eventually won 11-10 (7-3 tiebreaker).

In varsity doubles, Jones and Baalson remained aggressive in their play to defeat Julia Page and Sarah Barry, 10-2.  The final match point came from the solid play of Ali Witt and Brant, as they defeated Emma Heiderbrink and Jody Sindlinger, 10-4.

“It was nice to get a win today after some recent, tough losses.  The girls played with more patience and confidence,” said Coach Mary Jo Peterson.
