Area teams in latest golf rankings
Local high school golf teams are prominently featured in the latest rankings posted by the Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association.
The Clear Lake boys team is rated second in Class 2A, just behind Carroll Kuemper, which finished third at State last year, one place above the Lions. The Lions’ top two players, seniors Thomas Storbeck and Kyle Calaguas, are ranked seventh and ninth, while Tate Storbeck and Alex Snelling are 34th and 35th on the list.
On the girls side, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura is ranked fifth in Class 3A, with the Cardinals’ top player, Bailey Frayne coming in as the second ranked golfer. Her sister, Carlee, is ranked seventh. Teammate Rachel Enright is 43rd.
Defending State champion Emily Snelling, from Clear Lake, is ranked fifth in Class 3A. Snelling has only been on the course less than two weeks this season due to rehabilitation following surgery.
Another Lion, Ashley DeLong, is ranked sixth. Jordyn Barragy is 30th for the Lions and Mattie Krause is 51st.
Atlantic, which won the State title last season, is ranked as the the top team in Class 3A. As a team, Clear Lake is ranked 10th.
