Road win for CL girls soccer

After a sluggish first half, the Lions shook off the cobwebs from a nine-day lull to fight back and post a road win over Humboldt on the soccer field Thursday, May 4.

The Lions maintained control for much of the second half with solid defensive play.

“Lexie Holtz, Kayla Ritter, Rissa Barragy, Taylor Hill and Taylor Krull kept the ball on our attacking side of the field, which allowed our offensive players to keep control of the tempo,” explained Coach Steve Faber.

The Lions came back from a 1-0 deficit, with Jessica Faber scoring in the 51st minute to tie the game.

The defensive effort was again key to permitting Mallory Leisure to score what turned out to be the winning goal at the 67th minute.

Sara Faber and Julia Merfeld were each credited with one assist.

Sara Faber took four shots on goal.  Jessica Faber and Merfeld each took two and Leisure one.

Goalie Ana Starbeck made three saves in the net.

The win put the Lions’ record at 3-3.
