CL girls finish as runners-up at Forest City Invite
by Marianne Gasaway
Clear Lake finished in second place on Friday afternoon, May 10, at the Forest City Invitational played at Bear Creek. The Lions shot a team score of 373. New Hampton was the clear winner with a 339 in the nine-team field which also included Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, Forest City, Charles City, Crestwood, Algona and Mason City.
“Bear Creek is a very difficult course with a ton of water on it. There is a lot of trouble for players to find themselves in,” explained Clear Lake Coach Colby Andrews. “The team played extremely well and a 373 without Erin Carew was a big accomplishment.”
Clear Lake’s Ashley DeLong was the second place medalist with a 77. The coach noted DeLong played her best round of the season by five strokes.
Mattie Krause came in fifth place with an 86.
“This is Mattie’s best round of the year, topping her 89 at New Hampton Country Club,” Andrews noted.
Jaden Ainley finished with a 102. Mallory Leisure shot a 108, and Destiny Scott shot a 114.
“This course was great preparation and challenge for our Regional meet at Waverly Municipal Golf Course Monday,” said Andrews.
