GHV girls fall to Osage and Central Springs
The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura softball team has been stuck in a losing rut, as they have dropped their last five games, moving their record to 4-8.
Osage 15, GHV 5
Two big innings doomed the Cardinals and they fell, 15-5, to Osage on Monday, June 3. The Green Devils scored five runs in the first inning and eight in the fourth to power past GHV.
The Cardinals scored two runs in the first inning when Jailyn Krein smacked a double to left field, bringing in Jayden Hughes and Trinity Smith. Maddie Graham hit a single line drive in the third inning that scored Nicole Upmeyer, 6-3. A highlight of the game was when Emily VanDusseldorp knocked a home run in the fourth inning. The hit also allowed Kaitlyn Robinson to score, 6-5. From there the game was downhill for the Cards, as the defense couldn’t contain Osage’s big bats. The high-powered Osage offense had nine hits, including five doubles and one triple.
The Cardinals had six hits. Krein led the team with two hits, one being a double. She also had two RBIs
Graham took the loss for GHV. She allowed eight hits and 14 runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out three.
Central Springs 13, GHV 1
Central Springs took care of business fast, beating the Cardinals 13-1 in three innings on Wednesday, June 5.
The game opened with Central Springs sitting down the Cardinals one-two-three. The Panther pitcher struck out the first two batters and the third was thrown out on a grounder.
Central Springs opened their offense with a home run to center field. They followed that with four more runs for a 5-0 lead after the first inning.
GHV got on the board in the second inning, when Maddie Graham was thrown out on a grounder, but the hit allowed Alexis Wilkinson to score. The Panthers followed with four more runs in the second inning, 9-1.
The Cards couldn’t get any runs across the plate in the third inning. The Panthers wrapped it up with four more runs in the third inning.
Megan Oetken was the only player that got a hit for the Cards.
