Clear Lake X-C team competes at Dick Bell Invitational

The Clear Lake cross country team had one of their best meets of the year when they competed in the Dick Bell Invitational in Eagle Grove on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
“We had many personal records run for both the boys and girls teams,” said Coach Nick DiMarco. “I think most of the team is peaking at the right time. The runners are excited about competing in the NCC meet and then the State qualifier the following week.”
Boys
The boys had a successful outing, placing third in the 10-team field. The team finished with 112-points. Gilbert won the meet with 37-points, followed by Humboldt with 51-points.
Justin Wright led the boys with a third place finish in a time of 17:18. Quinton Orr, of Humboldt, won the meet with a time of 16:32. Ruba Griffith, of Gilbert, claimed runner-up honors with a time of 17:11.
Clear Lake’s Andrew Mixdorf was next to cross the line for the Lions. He placed 23rd with a time of 18:52. Jacob Pedelty wasn’t far behind with a time of 19:07, good for 27th place. Leo Tolentino and Jaden Wright ran a tight race. Tolentino was 32nd with a time of 19:15 and Wright was 34th with a time of 19:17. Jack Crane was also in the mix, finishing 36th with a time of 19:20.

Girls
The girl’s team recorded some personal best times, but as a team they finished eighth out of ten teams with a score of 207. Gilbert won the meet with 47 points, followed by Emmetsburg with 84 and Humboldt with 94-points.
Jayden Heesch was the first Clear Lake runner to cross the line. She was 27th with a time of 23:37. Bryce Gidel, of Humboldt, won the race with a time of 19:41. Abby Christians, of GHV, was second with a time of 20:31.
Karlee McCarl was 33rd for Clear Lake with a time of 23:39. Also running for Clear Lake was Emily Roberts, 44th, 25:17; Ella Nielsen, 59th, 26:14; Jessica Theobald, 76th, 27:44; Jillian Enke, 78th, 28:05; Aimee Groeneweg, 79th, 28:08; Emily Benitz, 92nd, 29:41; Gretchen Guetzlaff, 95th, 30:02; Chloe Williamson, 100th, 31:18; Hana Hasheash, 106th, 36:00.
The Clear Lake cross country team competed in the North Central Conference meet on Tuesday, Oct. 15. Results of that meet will be available in next week’s issue of the Clear Lake Mirror-Reporter.
