Marjorie J. Walls
Marjorie Jane Walls, 94, of Clear Lake, died Thursday, March 19, 2020, at Rockwell Community Nursing Home, in Rockwell.
A private graveside service was held on Thursday, March 26, 2020, at Memorial Park Cemetery, in Mason City, with Pastor David Peterson officiating. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of customary remembrances, family suggests memorial contributions to the Clear Lake United Methodist Church or Rockwell Community Nursing Home.
Marjorie was born July 29, 1925, in Cerro Gordo County, the daughter of Paul and Alta (Nielsen) Matzen. She attended Mason City Schools, graduating in 1943. Following graduation she met and married her husband, Donald S. Walls on Oct. 9, 1943, at the Christian Church Parsonage, in Mason City.
During their almost 50 years of marriage, Marge and Don worked side by side while grain and livestock farming. Marjorie’s joys in life were the love of family and church; especially the love and devotion for her five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was a devoted member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, UMW Church circles, church finance committee, and was the funeral chairwoman for many, many years. She was also a member of Rural Lakettes and Sorosis Club.
Left to cherish her memory are her surviving children, Richard (Jane) Walls, Clear Lake and Cindy (Sterling) Washburn, Clear Lake; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Walls, Kathleen (Austin) Bates, Jennifer (Paul) Stover, Justin (Leah) Washburn and Melissa (Austin) Woodin; 10 great-grandchildren, Sydney Stover, Jayden Stover, Harper Woodin, Graydan Woodin, Lochlyn Woodin, Finleigh Woodin, Evelyn Washburn, Nolan Washburn, Jackson Washburn and Aubrey Jayne Bates; sister, June Ransom, Ventura; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law, Isaac and Lola Walls; husband; daughter, Dixie Lee; brother, Paul Matzen; brother-in-law, Keith Ransom; nephew, Gary Ransom; and a very dear friend of many years, William Rich.
She leaves many good friends, times and loved ones. She will be dearly missed.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
