100 Years Ago July 1915

An awful suspense brooded over this community from Friday until Tuesday of last week and to the family of O.V. Goldthorpe the skies were all leaden and the clouds dropped nothing but sadness and sorrow.  Friday the two-year old son had played in the yard and disappeared.  The only clue was that in the stream that flowed past the place his little hat was found.  Hundreds of volunteers searched for him.  At one time the anxious father placed a young live pig in a sack which he cast into the creek.  The current carried it way down stream.  The sheriff and his deputy found the child entangled in a wire.  A great suspense is lifted from the parent’s heart to know that the life of their child was not taken by wicked and careless men.
