The concept of merging the staffs of the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and Clear Lake Business and Industrial Development Corporation was passed by boards of each group.  In other news, Sharon May, executive vice president of the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, submitted her resignation to the Chamber effective Aug. 1.

The level of Clear Lake, as measured on Tuesday, July 10, was 43.68” below the spillway.

Dick and Pauline Nickerson hosted a family picnic and birthday celebration for their six-year-old twin grandchildren, Conner and Theresa Turek, following the July 4th parade at the Nickerson farm southeast of Clear Lake.

Mary Jane Huntington, Clear Lake, was elected first vice president of Iowa State Chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood at the 98th annual convention.  She is a member of Chapter LE, Clear Lake.

In a double header on July 2, the Clear Lake girls lost 8-3 and tied 6-6 against the Webster City girls.  Wendy Bell pitched both games and struck out seven batters.  Kendra Berge led the offense with three hits.

The Ventura/Klemme girls took third place honors in the North Star Conference Tourney.  In a big victory over Corwith-Wesley-Luverne, 20-1, Jody Luscomb, Charity Weberg, Megan Coe and Julie Buchanan all had two hits.  The girls finished their season with an overall record of 17-7 and 9-3 in conference play.

Clear Lake eighth grade students Chris Monson, Jason Nyhus, Wes Nelson and Jamie Anderson took first place while competing at the State Junior Olympics in Des Moines.

Playing at the Cinema V is Warren Beatty in “Dick Tracy.”  Also playing is Tom Cruise in “Days of Thunder.”
