Close to 4,000 people were treated to the Annual Noon Lions Chicken Barbecue at City Park in perfect weather.

On Aug. 29, Clear Lake will host ambassadors and trade representatives from at least 30 foreign countries.  The stop in Clear Lake is part of the Third Iowa International Trade Symposium sponsored by Senator Charles Grassley.  The ambassadors will ride on the Lady of the Lake visit the Clear Lake Fire Museum, have a picnic at City park and then spend the night with host families.

Jason Maley, age 5, was surprised when he caught a painted turtle on his fishing line.  He was even more surprised to find he wasn’t the first to catch the turtle.  On the turtle’s underside was painted, “My name is Joe.  Caught 6-30.”  Below that is painted “7-2.”  Jason added “7-16” to the list and returned the turtle to the lake.

A new Hunting Board to form guidelines, rules and regulations for hunting in limited development districts, such as the newly annexed land east of Clear Lake, was formed at the Clear Lake City Council meeting.

Express Airlines, doing business as Northwest Airline, set new record highs for passengers carried and flights operated for the month of June.  The airline operated 10,816 flights.  Express Airlines transported 104,452 revenue passengers, a new all time monthly record.  The airline serves Mason City Airport.

Overthrowing to second base in the bottom of the fifth inning on an attempted steal, scored Mason City their only run, and also the winning run in softball action at Clear Lake.  Mason City held Clear Lake to one hit, and that by Kendra Berge.  Wendy Ball pitched, giving up four hits, walking one and striking out one.
