Heavy rains last week were helpful in bringing the level up nearly three and one-half inches from the report of -42.96” below the spillway on July 16.  The level is now at -39.48” below the spillway.

Snyder Construction, of Clear Lake, was awarded the contract for a major building project at Handicap Village.  The project, bid at $528,225, includes two additions to the Village’s main Kinney-Lindstrom Work Activity Center, as well as remodeling of several existing areas.  New construction will add a greenhouse, an additional work area for clients, a large meeting room to be used as a staff training center, offices, a media resource room and small conference rooms.

A car wash will be held to benefit the Ventura Public Library Building Fund.

Clubs featuring news in the “Club News” section include:  Wa Tan Ye Club, Clear Lake Lioness Club, Lincoln Peppy Pals, Women of Today, and Home Improvement Club.

Dianne Hensley, who for the past four years has operated KZEV Radio in Clear Lake, has sold her stock to the station giving controlling interest to a Minnesota group.  While no other staff changes are expected, the format will switch from rock and roll to a more adult contemporary format.

The Clear Lake baseball team won both games in a double header, 10-1 and 5-2, against West Hancock.  In the early game, Eric Meyer was the winning pitcher allowing one hit, six strike outs and walking four batters.  Offensively the Lions had nine hits, two from both Scott Sommer and Meyer.  Jeff Krutsinger went three for three with a home run, double and a single.  Jason Parker was the winning pitcher in the second game, going two innings.  Mark Ades also pitched.  Jason Currier and Kurt Dreger both hit doubles in the game.

The Ventura/Klemme softball team had three girls named to the first team of the 1990 North Star All-Conference Softball Team.  Julie Buchanan, Megan Coe and Kelly Meyer were all named to the First Team.  Charity Weberg and Stacey Blank, made the second team.  Tricia Ackerman was given honorable mention status.

Performing at the Surf Ballroom in July is Golden Country Band, Accent Rock-N-Roll Memories, and Erv Reutzel Orchestra.
