Clear Lake, recognized as one of Iowa’s greatest natural lake resources, is included in a five-year plan (1991-’95) prepared by the Cerro Gordo County Resource Enhancement Committee. The Farmer’s Beach area, along the south shore of Clear Lake, was earmarked in the plan. The Farmer’s Beach complex is owned by Max Clausen, and the Connell and Ashland families.
Laurence Fredriksen, of Clear Lake, has been selected as the Grand Marshal for the July 4th parade.
Chris Nannenga, of Thornton, won a close contest in the District 2 Cerro Gordo County Supervisors Republican race to earn the chance to meet Democrat Richard Nickerson in the November general election. In the final totals, Nannega tallied 445 votes to narrowly defeat Jack Davis, who had 417 votes. Former Clear Lake Mayor Carl Hankenson was credited with 74 votes.
The Clear Lake Fire Department was dispatched to the north bound rest area of Interstate 35 early Friday afternoon on a report of a semi trailer spilling a hazardous material.
Terry Peterson, general manager of Budget Inn Motel, Clear Lake, has been awarded the certified hotel administrator designation by the Educational Institute of the American Hotel and Motel Association.
Tim Esbeck, of Clear Lake, will serve as NIACC’s Director of Economic Development.
The Clear Lake Lions improved their record to 5-3 overall, 1-1 in NCC play. Clear Lake beat SC-MT, 5-0, and Algona, 19-3. They were beat by Iowa Falls, 6-2. Jason Parker was the winning pitcher against SC-MT and Kurt Dreger was the pitcher against Algona.
The Ventura/Klemme softball team won four of their last five games. Megan Coe, Julie Buchanan and Jody Luscomb have been doing well at the plate for the team.
