Response to a second Main Street meeting has led to a decision by local officials to hold off on writing a letter of intent to seek application to the Main Street Iowa Program.  With time being a factor the group did not feel it was time to apply.

An air show - the first to be held in nine years at the Mason City Municipal Airport, is slated for Aug. 19.  The event is sponsored by the Clear Lake Mason City Chambers of Commerce.

Several Clear Lake attractions will be featured on Iowa Public Television’s “Iowa This Weekend.”  Attractions featured will include Clear Lake Fire Museum, Clear Lake State Park, the Mason City and Clear Lake Historic Society Trolley, the Surf Ballroom, Kinney Pioneer Museum, and of course, the lake itself.

Jeff Cronin, who has played two seasons with the Clear Lake Lakers, agreed to a contract with the Atlanta Braves.  Cronin, who has to report to the Braves rookie camp at Bradenton, Fla., is a former Des Moines East and Simpson College baseball player.  He is the son of Larry and Ruth Cronin, of Clear Lake.

The Clear Lake softball team topped Eagle Grove, 6-1.  Wendy Ball pitched all seven innings, striking out seven batters and walking only two.  The team also beat Humboldt, 14-4.  Ball and Kendra Berge both hit doubles.

Jon M. Epsteen has joined Lake Chevrolet as a salesman.

A total of 78 boats competed in the MC National Championship Regatta held over the weekend.  Local sailors who faired well included Bill and Jeff Nicholas, of Clear Lake, they placed second and third in the Amateur Class.  Brad Osmundson, Byron Bensely and Harry Alcorn finished 12th, 13th and 14th respectively.

Playing at Cinema V is Warren Beatty in “Dick Tracy,” “Gremlins 2,” and “Robo Cop 2.”
