Accidents claim two lives
Bicyclist, driver die in separate collisions
It was a deadly week on Clear Lake area roads.
Thursday morning, Nov. 20, a Clear Lake woman was killed when the bike she was riding collided with a flat bed truck north of Ventura.
The Iowa State Patrol reported 62-year-old Sally Bell was traveling west on 340th Street, west of Fertile, when she collided in the intersection at Balsam Avenue with a northbound truck driven by 63-year-old Timothy Cole, of Clear Lake. Bell was airlifted to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, where she later died.
The accident occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m.
On Friday morning, Nov. 21, the driver of a mid-sized vehicle was killed in a collision with a semi at 210th Street and Lark Avenue, south of Highway 18 near Burchinal.
Melissa Alford, 31, of Sheffield, Iowa was traveling north on Lark Avenue around 11:30 a.m. Friday when she entered the intersection of 210th Street and was struck by a grain truck driven by Thomas Turek, 61, of Clear Lake. Turek was traveling west.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, Alford pulled in front of the truck as it approached the intersection, causing a broadside collision.
Turek was not injured in the accident.
Alford died at the scene.
