Betty M. Grell, 96, of Clear Lake, died Friday, April 7, 2017, at Oakwood Care Center, in Clear Lake.
A graveside service will be at Clear Lake Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Jacqueline Thompson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial contributions to Opportunity Village or to Hospice of North Iowa.
Betty was born Aug. 5, 1920, the daughter of Elmer and Wilma (Kiley) Treloar, in Rudd, Iowa. She married Reuben Grell on May 16, 1942, at the Treloar home in Clear Lake. He preceded her in death on Jan. 24, 2001.
After moving to Clear Lake in 1934, Betty graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1938. She attended Iowa State Teachers’ College and taught country school in Lake Township.
Betty was a member of Clear Lake United Methodist Church. She enjoyed working with ceramics, bird watching and loved traveling. She and Reuben were proud to say they had visited all “48 lower states.” She also loved and cherished the time she spent with her family; especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Betty is survived by five daughters, Judith (Tennis) Gordon, of Rock Falls, Iowa, Sharon (Paul) Shuster, of Park Rapids, Minn., Deborah (Russell) Hansen, of Collins, Iowa, Lori (Mark) Severtson, of Oregon, Wis., and Virginia “GiGi” (Larry) Lisitza, of Henderson, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Dawn Ehrhart, Michael Hansen, Joshua (Carrie) Shuster, Jessica (Bill) Miller, Joe (Stacie) Shuster, Bjorn Severtson and Rolf Severtson; two step-grandchildren, Lance and Lucas Lisitza; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two siblings, Tom Treloar and Norma Yuhouse.
