Brinkman to lead CL girls golf team
Adam Brinkman, a Clear Lake golf standout during his high school years, will now lead the Lions girls team as its new head coach. Brinkman replaces Fred Wieck, who submitted his resignation to the School Board earlier this year. Wieck is stepping down after coaching 24 years in the program. He directed the Lions to a pair of State Championships, including the first state championship for any CLHS girls team in 2010.
Brinkman also grew up in Clear Lake’s great high school golf tradition. He helped the Lions to a fourth place finished at State as a senior.
After graduating from CLHS in 2010, he went to North Iowa Area Community College and played golf for two more years, qualifying for the National Golf Championship. Last season he was an assistant coach to the Clear Lake girls and boys golf teams. The 2014 season will mark his first time as a head coach.
“I am really looking forward to this great opportunity to continue the great tradition that the Clear Lake golf program has had over the past 10 years,” said Brinkman. “I know I have big shoes to fill in taking over for Fred Wieck, and it’s going to take a lot of hard work to continue the programs success, but I am ready for the season to get underway.”
