Brother-sister duo place fourth at State Co-Ed Tennis Tournament

Clear Lake’s Sam Jones and Gretchen Jones recorded a fourth place finish at the 32-team Iowa State Co-Ed Tennis Tournament played in Des Moines Tuesday, June 9.

The brother-sister team advanced to the semi-finals by defeating the team of Ryan Petovic and Tully Reed, from Spirit Lake-Okoboji, 6-0, 6-2 in the first round.

They were tested a bit more in the second round, but got past Monica Copeland and Daniel Rohlf, from Davenport

Assumption, in the second round, 6-4, 6-1.

In the Quarterfinals the Lion team defeated Anna Spencer and Carl Sand, from Decorah, 6-1, 6-1.

A close loss in the semi-finals to Brynn Reichardt and Noah Hart, from Des Moines Christian, 6-2, 7-5 sent them to the consolation finals.  There, they fell to Carly Madson and Nathan Greiner, North Polk, 8-4.

The fourth place finish among the 32-team participating in the State Co-Ed Tournament capped a very successful spring tennis season for CLHS.  Sam Jones, a junior, earned a State title as an individual, while Gretchen Jones, a freshman, helped her CLHS team to a strong 8-2 record  Paired with Lindsey Loudenburg, she was third out of 16 doubles teams in the Regional Tournament held in Decorah in May.
