Cardinal girls split two soccer matches

IF-A 4, GHV 2

The Cardinals fought hard, but in the end came up short in a 4-2 loss to Iowa Falls-Alden on Monday, April 18.

“Iowa Falls-Alden is a physical team and that is something we usually struggle with,” said Coach Josh Banse.  “The game was a lot closer than the score shows and they proved they can play with teams like this.”

Payton Bamrick and Hannah Lau scored the two goals for the Cardinals.

Goalie Morgan Westendorf had seven saves.

“We are still trying to find the right lineup and rotation,” said Banse.

GHV 5, CAL 0

GHV shut-out CAL on Friday, April 22, 5-0.

Autumn Weaver came through for the Cardinals with two goals.  Scoring one goal apiece was Payton Bamrick, Bretta Carolus and Brooklyn Laird.

“We were missing some key members tonight,” said Coach Josh Banse.  “The girls played well and did a great job filling those spots.”

Coach Banse praised the play of Ashley Markla and Teyha Mitchell in the midfield.  Weaver and Bamrick had many shots on goal, but would just not go in, according to Banse.

“The attack of the offense was great and our defense had a nice game as well,” said Banse.

Deserae Clevenger was the goalie for the night.
