Cardinals capture more wins

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura baseball team kept their winning streak alive with two more victories in action last week.

The Cardinals will begin District play Tuesday, July 12, against the winner of the Emmetsburg vs. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows game.  The District game will be played in Clear Lake at 5 p.m.

GHV 8, C-G-D 6

The Cardinals racked a big lead early on their way to an 8-6 victory over Clarion-Goldfield-Dows on Tuesday, June 28.

GHV had an 8-4 lead at the end of the third inning and managed to stay on top for the remainder of the game, although they couldn’t put up any more runs.

Anthony Sherwood got the win for the Cardinals despite allowing five runs over four innings.  He struck out four, walked five and gave up two hits.  Ryley Kozisek pitched three innings.  He struck out five, walked one and gave up two hits.

Nick Joynt had one powerful hit, knocking in four RBIs on a single in the third inning.  Also collecting a hit apiece was Kozisek, Cade Bamrick and Dane Whipple.

Baker, Harley Forry, Payton James and Whipple all had one RBI each.

GHV 11, N-P 1 (5)

GHV rolled over Nashua-Plainfield in an 11-1 blowout on Wednesday, June 29.

The Cards collected seven runs in the first three innings, setting the stage for the rest of the game.

A powerful fifth inning, led by a three-run double by Payton James, kept the game well in hand for the Cardinals.

N-P had a hard time getting anything going against starting GHV pitcher James.  James held Nashua-Plainfield hitless over two innings.  He walked two and struck-out two.  Colton Schroeder finished the last three innings on the mound.  He walked four, struck-out three and gave up two hits and one run.

Alek Goll was a perfect 3/3 at the plate.  He had one RBI and scored two runs.  Cade Baker connected on two singles and he had one RBI.
