Cardinals place fourth in Top of Iowa Conference Meet
Consistent scoring led to a fourth place finish for the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys golf team when they competed in the Top of Iowa Conference Meet held on Monday, May 9, at Spring Valley Golf Course, in Livermore, Iowa.
Bishop Garrigan earned the TIC Boy’s Golf West Division Championship with an impressive 308. There was a three-team battle for second place between Forest City, North Union and GHV. Forest City ended up as runner-up with a 329, followed by North Union with a 335 and GHV with a 343.
Brandon Bell and Jordan Babcock led the way for the Cardinals with a pair of 85s. Grady Umbarger and Matthew Heinemann rounded out the team score with an 86 and 87 respectively.
Zach Boelter, of Bishop Garrigan, was the meet medalist with a 72. Parker Oleson, of North Union, was the runner-up. He carded a 77.
“Bishop Garrigan ran away with the team title, but the battle for second place was a good one,” said Coach Ken Krause.
