Cardinals win some, lose some

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura baseball team moved their record to 4-9 overall and 3-6 in the North Iowa Conference following games played last week.
H-D 15, GHV 5
Hampton-Dumont connected on 13 hits in five innings to roll over the Cardinals, 15-5, on Saturday, June 6, in Hampton.
The fourth and fifth innings were killers for the Cardinals, as they gave up four runs in the fourth and eight runs in the fifth.
Kaleb Bruggerman took the loss on the mound, pitching four innings. He gave up six hits and seven runs and walked six batters. Also seeing time on the mound was Ryley Kozisek and Holden Hutcheson. Hutcheson gave up six hits and eight runs and walked two.
Payton James scored two of the Cardinal’s five runs. Also scoring was Harley Forry, Alek Goll and Connor Burke. Forry and Burke both connected for doubles.
GHV 6, Osage 3
GHV 10, Osage 6
The Cardinals topped Osage in a double header played on Monday, June 8, at Osage. GHV beat the Green Devils 6-3 and 10-6.
James captured both wins on the mound. He recorded a whopping 15 strike-outs between the two games. He gave up six hits and walked three batters. Also seeing some time on the mound was Ryan Meyers and Colton Schroeder. Meyers struck out five, walked three and gave up five runs. Schroeder had three strick-outs, walked one and gave up one run.
Hutcheson and Connor Burke led the offense. Burke had four hits, one being a triple and another a double. He scored two runs and had two RBIs on the night. Hutcheson had two hits, one being a double, and he scored four runs. Bruggerman and Forry also smacked doubles in the game. Bruggerman led the team in RBIs with three.
GHV 6, Eagle Grove 5
GHV pulled off a close one Wednesday night, June 10, when they hosted Eagle Grove in a North Iowa Conference showdown. The Cards topped the Eagles, 6-5.
Alek Goll was the winning pitcher for the Cardinals. He pitched six innings, allowing eight hits and he gave up five runs. He struck out five batters and walked one. Colton Schroeder pitched one inning. He gave up one hit.
James led the team on offense, with two hits, two runs and two RBIs. Bruggerman and Forry also had good nights at the plate, with two hits apiece and each scored one run. Bruggerman hit a double and brought in two RBIs. Meyers had one hit that plated two runners.
Lake Mills 5, GHV 4
A tough Lake Mills pitcher doomed the Cardinals to a 5-4 loss on Friday, June 12. Thirteen GHV batters were struck out by Bulldog pitcher Slade Sifuentes.
Lake Mills started the game strong and scored four runs in the first inning. GHV scored two runs in the third inning and two in the fifth.
Meyers took the loss on the mounds, pitching two innings. He gave up three hits and four runs. He struck out four batters and walked two. Schroeder pitched four innings. He gave up three hits and allowed one run. He struck out four and walked two.
Nick Joynt had one hit that brought in three runs. Also collecting a hit apiece were Forry, Hutcheson and Meyers.
Forry, Hutcheson, Schroeder and Anthony Sherwood scored the runs for GHV.
